Ready to Launch: The path from Idea to IPO

HP.  Intel.  Cisco.  Amazon.  Facebook.  Iconic names now, but not too long ago these massively successful corporations were startups with an idea of how to do something better. 

Have you ever wondered how the CEO of a startup takes the company from a few employees to a $100 Million valuation?  How a CFO positions a company for acquisition?  How a venture capitalist picks the companies they choose to invest in?

Never before has it been more possible for a small group of passionate people with an idea to launch their business and change the world. Join FEAT for an exciting panel of veteran venture entrepreneurs (CEO, CFO and Venture Capitalist) as they discuss their stories of innovation and explosive growth.

About our speakers:

Louis Breton
is the former CEO of Calimmune, Inc., a gene therapy development company he co-founded with Nobel Laureate Dr. David Baltimore, which was recently acquired by CSL Behring.  Calimmune focused on liberating patients from chronic and currently incurable diseases.  Mr. Breton is a husband, father, Chaplain, inventor, author, mentor, serial entrepreneur and is involved in local charities.  He has a career in biotechnology spanning more than 2 decades.  He has now built and successfully sold 3 life science focused companies, including a biotech consulting firm.  He has raised more than $100M for the companies he has launched and has conducted approximately 500 licensing deals with academic and government institutions.  He has established international subsidiaries, negotiated with global regulatory bodies, and has collaborated with ministries of health of multiple governments.  He has been intimately involved in more than 20 different product launches.  He has been a board member of 12 biotech and high tech companies and was a Business Advisory Council member for a sitting president.  Mr. Breton has presented to the House of Lords and participated in a special conference at the Vatican to bridge faith and science.  In the last decade, he has helped to craft a new paradigm for the delivery of stem cell gene therapy and regenerative medicine and is now taking on the esteemed roles of chauffeur, Dance Dad, swim instructor, babysitter and courier.

Curtis Gunn is Chairman of the Desert Angels, a very active angel investment group of accredited investors in Tucson, that review presentations from early-stage startup companies looking for potential funding.  Prior to this role, Curtis traveled the world competing as a professional cyclist riding for both US and Australian-based Professional Cycling teams.  Previous to his life as a professional athlete, he was an entrepreneur founding and operating companies based in retail, Internet, healthcare and real estate.  As an angel investor, Curtis has invested in over 40 different companies across a broad spectrum of industries, technologies, and geographies.  Curtis serves on the board of Startup Tucson and was formerly on the board of the Angel Capital Association.

Greg Teesdale is the CFO of Tempronics.  He has 30+ years in technology-based, venture capital-backed companies and has been the CFO and COO of many companies, including Strongwatch, Andigilog, Sion Power, AuthenTec, SiCom, and Photometrics. As CFO, he has achieved successful exits of his companies to Apple, Roper Industries, and other large corporations. Greg has also consulted with companies and served as board member assisting with M&A and business and operational strategy. Greg has an MBA from Arizona State University with a focus on Operations Management.
